Delivering a world-class passenger experience with Newark Liberty International Airport

project overview
How do you balance preservation and innovation in a historic renovation project?
Hangar 1 at Moffett Federal Airfield has an eight-acre footprint. Rising nearly 200 feet high, the building required a complete structural restoration. The project set out to safely remove hazardous materials and install a façade that replicated the original design, while adding modern improvements like a new ventilation system and bird safety features.
project story
Delivering and schedule certainty
We provided comprehensive project controls and management services to support this project. In partnership with CBRE, our team managed all commercial aspects of the program, from budget oversight and forecasting to risk mitigation and procurement. We took an owner’s mindset to navigate the complexity of historic preservation.
Our disciplined approach helped mitigate commercial risks and manage complex change orders. We kept the project on track for its scheduled completion in December 2025.
Protecting the environment and supporting the community
The restoration of Hangar 1 supported the environment and the community. By removing legacy toxic materials across the site, the project helped protect the San Francisco Bay ecosystem. It also preserves a cultural landmark that has been part of the Silicon Valley skyline since the 1930s.
This effort helps ensure that a historic structure will continue to benefit the community for decades to come.
